If you’re an executive, business owner, manager or decision maker in any business I urge you to read on.

For thousands of years people have been starting and running businesses. One of the biggest questions I often hear is what business is the best to get into?

To which my answer is always…

“You will always be most successful doing what you most enjoy.”

Three simple factors should determine whether you have chosen the right business for you.

  1. Know what you are doing; become excellent in your chosen field
  2. Believe in what you are doing
  3. Love what you are doing

First, a couple of brief explanations so we’re on the same page.

Earlier I mentioned entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. You may or may not be familiar with the latter.

Entrepreneur vs. Intrapreneur Just as there are expanding opportunities today for entrepreneurs, there is a growing demand for "Intrapreneurs."

Intrapreneurs—People who work within large corporations and use their creativity to develop new products, processes, and services for their companies.

Entrepreneurs—People who start businesses and accept the risk and uncertainty in exchange for independence, freedom, and potentially high rewards.

There are tremendous opportunities available today for both types of personalities.

Here are a few ideas to give you clarity about the qualities observed in successful business leaders.

Judgment—Wisdom acquired through experience and reflection, especially making mistakes and learning from them.

Intrapreneurs—People who work within large corporations and use their creativity to develop new products, processes, and services for their companies.

Entrepreneurs—People who start businesses and accept the risk and uncertainty in exchange for independence, freedom, and potentially high rewards.

There are tremendous opportunities available today for both types of personalities.

Here are a few ideas to give you clarity about the qualities observed in successful business leaders.

Judgment—Wisdom acquired through experience and reflection, especially making mistakes and learning from them.

Foresight—The ability to see the big picture, to anticipate trends and results.

Leadership—The ability to inspire, to elicit extraordinary performance from ordinary people.

Communication—Your ability to interact effectively one-on-one to make presentations to groups, to communicate on paper.

Sales Ability—The ability to influence, persuade, and motivate people to act in a certain way.

All these qualities are learned and can be learned by an ambitious, determined person like you.

Here’s something to consider.

If a company is not growing and prospering, the reason is because it is not satisfying it’s customers in sufficient quantity or quality for whatever reason.

In a dynamic market, there are always opportunities for those who find new, better, faster, cheaper ways to serve customers with what they want.
